'Tunnel Memories' reveals and distills occulted architectural sonic-phenomena, offering the listener a dense spectrum experience of deep intrigue and immersive conjurations of true sonic-alchemy. The resulting documentation blurs the lines between environmental sound/media art, industrial and ambient genres respectively; propagation within the walls toward æther and beyond.

Raw and personal, this album brings ONLY NOW and OROGEN back to their most exposed and primitive roots following 20 years of collaboration.

Utilizing the most basic tools, which included consumer grade recorders, a sampler, effects units and software, this album documents the sensory transformation of two East Bay Area locations that they have explored since childhood.

Their process began with field recording to capture the ventilation system hisses and cavernous echoes of the Northbrae Tunnel and UC Berkeley campus + two days dedicated to arrangement. The resulting manipulation of time and space exposes embedded rhythms, bass flutters, and metallic subsonic resonances. An ASMR like quality is gleaned from their walks and turbulent rattlings, bringing the listener closer to ritualistic methodology.

Finished each time within one sitting, they have changed their traditional production approach to reveal the inner workings of density that have peppered their previous releases on Discrepant. With vulnerability to show the mechanics behind the arcane approach to sound honed together over the years, they continue to evolve whilst framing their work in their original ideology.

Only Now: Only Now is the vision of Kush Arora, based in Berkeley, CA. His sound is an unremitting emission of razor cut rhythms, primal channeling, and ritualistic electronics. There is wild abandon in his approach; from seething Indian percussion to cold fronts of ambience that highlight Arora’s ability to juggle disparate sonics. Active in the Bay Area since the late 90’s, Kush produces in scenes ranging from noise to dancehall as with his recent “Indian Unclassical” series. Arora's work has been featured on the BBC and in The Wire, The Quietus, The Guardian, FACT, Resident Advisor, and Bandcamp Daily.

Orogen: San Francisco Bay Area based producer Orogen intersects various electronic music genres with industrial dissonance, elaborate sound design and original field recordings. He started playing the trombone in grade school and moved on to folk instruments, field recorders, synthesizers and computers.
